La Futbolera: Creating Space for Latina Soccer Fans
Latinx women's sports fans deserve to be seen too.
This is what brought Rise & Rep & Peruvian Sisters together to host one of the first watch parties fully dedicated to Latina women's soccer in New York: La Futbolera.
(I keep thinking it's the first one ever. Should I be bold enough to claim it?)

We set out to host a watch party of five Conmebol and Concacaf W matches (qualifying matches for the 2027 Brazil World Cup next year) and to do so at Blazers Sports Bar, one of the first women's sports bars in the city. (Fun fact: The bar is co-owned by fellow Latina Debany Dávila.)
With teams such as Perú, Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, Venezuela, Bolivia, México and Puerto Rico playing we knew we couldn't miss this opportunity to bring together Latinas futboleras and enjoy the beautiful game together.
To celebrate their passion for soccer, we also designed these really cool hats and t-shirts which you should get ASAP because they're limited release. (Grab one for yourself or gift one to the futbolera in your life!)

We had 60+ attendees across five hours worth of soccer, many of them representing teams that weren't event playing (I see you Brazilian & USA fans!).
This proves once again that Latinx sports fandom is an important and influential core of the women's sports community, simply waiting to be recognized and given its rightful place.
(If you don't believe me, check out the work of DRAFTED, who has been highlighting the massive influence of Latinas in Sports for several years now!)

This was a memorable night for Latinas women's sports in the city, and we promise it won't be the last! (We heard you! You want to see more of these!)
We plan to keep bringing more visibility to Latina sports fans and allies through experiences and events like this, collaborations and partnerships, cool merch, and storytelling.
And we hope you all help us continue our mission to Make Women's Sports Impossible to Ignore!
Big shoutout to our event photographers, Carlos G Jara (see his coverage) and Stacy Gomez (see her coverage.)
